About us

In 1913, after having taken over his restaurant in the City Park, Károly Gundel decided to open another restaurant of family-style next door for the visitors of the Budapest Zoo. A large wooden building occupied the area where owls may have lived once – that is where the name Owl’s Castle originates from.

In its centennial the Owl’s Castle continues to be a restaurant of family atmosphere reminding us of the Sunday lunches or dinners with our grandmothers and mothers while it offers the traditional values of Hungarian hospitality.

Our Chef, Sándor Fodor is intended to return the traditional Hungarian flavours, ingredients and cousine.
